quirkydo

I am Bex Walker, mother, entrepreneur owner and founder of quirkydo.

I always had a dream: to open my own salon.

Thirteen years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. This became my now or never moment, being told I had an incurable disease concentrated my thinking. If I did not strike out on my own, and open my own salon, it would probably never happen.

In a sense this was a crazy thing to do. Starting a business and not knowing how the disease might impact on my life in the future might not be the most sensible thing to do.

At that time, I had pain in every joint you can imagine, my hands were intensely painful and my fingers so stiff and swollen that I could hardly move them. This was not ideal for a hair stylist.

One thing, I did my upmost to remain positive, so positive in fact quirkydo was born.

Part of me also wanted to prove to myself and other people that rheumatoid arthritis is not the end of the world, it is still possible to have dreams and see them through and if this inspires others all the better.

Along the way, I have become passionate about health, well-being and how both can transform the appearance of our hair.

So where are we thirteen years later? There have been ups and downs – it’s to be expected in life and the hair industry.

quirkydo has grown, we now offer a wide range of hairdressing services and we also sell a range of our own quirkydo hair care products.

As for me? After doing lots of research on living a healthy lifestyle My arthritis is in remission, I am not currently taking any medication and I follow a healthy keto diet. I have completely cut out sugar and re-fined carbohydrates from my diet.
